41,100ha EPO 1841 covering the Chinhoyi Greenstone Belt with proven gold shear zones and Lomagundi-hosted copper mineralisation.
EPO 1841 covers about 41,100 hectares granted for gold and base minerals exploration, located approximately 100km to the north-west of Harare in the Mashonaland West Mining District. It covers part of the Chinhoyi Greenstone Belt, which hosts gold deposits such as Eldorado, Claremont and Prince George.
The Eldorado Shear Zone and BIF horizons are the major targets for gold exploration; the BIF horizon hosts Golden Kopje, a major gold mine situated just west of the EPO. The occurrence of copper mineralisation below the Proterozoic Deweras arkoses at the base of the Lomagundi System generated interest from previous prospectors. The Alaska deposit was mined economically nearby, and copper occurrences along the Buguta and Hunyani mountain range indicate potential for an economic copper deposit. Previous work relied on panning rubble and soil samples — intensive geochemical sampling, geophysics and diamond drilling may reveal new ore bodies under the deep soil cover.
